Major rolling mill modernization at Himeji Works, Japan

Danieli intervention will improve product quality and increase productivity

Japanese steelmaker Godo Steel contracted Danieli for the renewal of the big bar mill for engineering and structural steels at Himeji Works, Kansai region, Japan.

The job will consist of the major upgrade of the medium-sized rolling mill that has been producing alloyed steel rounds, deformed rounds and light rails, for 87 years.

Danieli will provide a brand-new mill made of two double-shiftable reverse stands that, installed in a new, connected bay, will roll blooms coming from the existing blooming mill, and make use of the existing finishing lines.

The purpose of the modernization is to improve product quality by increasing rigidity of the stands through the installation of new ones, and to increase productivity by reducing the roll changing time, resulting in improved competitiveness and safety.

The upgraded mill will improve the rolling process and enable Godo Steel to enhance its ability to handle small production lots.

Danieli will supply all technological equipment produced at its Asian quality manufacturing centers, along with electrical and automation systems developed by Danieli Automation.

The project, which is scheduled to start operation in the second half of 2028, will be handled by Danieli Japan.
